ROSA L. RIVERA-MCCUTCHEN, PHD
Dr. Rosa L. Rivera-McCutchen is a Professor of Leadership Studies at CUNY Lehman College, a Hispanic Serving Institution in the Bronx, where she also serves as the coordinator of School and District Leader certification programs. A first-generation college graduate, Dr. Rivera-McCutchen’s research, teaching and activism are informed by her experiences as an educator and student in NYC public schools, and center on achieving racial equity through radical care practices. An educator for over twenty years, she began her career as a high school teacher and advisor at Wings Academy, in the Bronx, before earning her doctorate in Teaching and Learning at New York University. Prior to joining the Lehman faculty, she was an instructor in the Scaffolded Apprenticeship Model program, an educational leadership and comprehensive school improvement initiative at CUNY Baruch College. She has worked as an educational consultant, supporting professional development across NYC schools and conducting program evaluations. Her research has appeared in highly respected academic journals, including Educational Administration Quarterly, Urban Education, The Urban Review, Journal of School Leadership, and Journal of Cases in Educational Leadership, and in an edited book entitled Critical Small Schools: Beyond Privatization in New York City Urban Educational Reform. Her book, Radical Care: Leading for Justice in Urban Schools, was published by Teachers College Press in 2021. Dr. Rivera-McCutchen is also an affiliated faculty member in the Urban Education PhD Program at CUNY Graduate Center, and a faculty affiliate at the NYU Metropolitan Center for Research on Equity and the Transformation of Schools.
